In today’s business climate, Health, Safety and Environmental Management is one of the key business factors, and as with all companies who value their workforce, is as important as production. Scribante Concrete has 16 operations which are spread over the country and into Lesotho. Many of these plants are stand-alone whereas a number of mobile sites are situated on client’s contracts. We use the SARMA SHREQ Audit system as a benchmark and design our documentation to be ISO 9000, OSHAS 18000 and ISO 14000 compatible. All operations have a SHE file which is managed by the supervisor or batcher and monitored by the risk department.
We strive to keep abreast of changing legislation. Due to the geographical spread of our operations, some of which are situated in mining areas and hence are covered by the Mine Health and Safety Act whilst others are covered by the Occupational Health and Safety Act. Regular SHE audits are carried out by the risk department and targeted SHE training is given to all management and staff where relevant. All staff undergo an annual medical screening and follow-up takes place where issues are identified. All training is carried out by accredited service providers.
